Fall Favourites

Fall has well and truly arrived here in NB! The air is crisp and the leaves are vibrant. It’s time for soup and warming drinks. For me, autumn goes hand in hand with settling in, getting cozy, and indulging in some self-care. These themes are definitely consistent in all my fall faves this year.

SLIPPERS

First up, SOCCO’s Babouche slippers. These slippers are so cozy and comfy. The sole is super cushioned, and I love the colours (the burgundy and charcoal in particular!). My favourite part is the collapsed heal - they’ve skipped the step where we squash the heal ourselves (it’s not laziness, it’s fashion).

These slippers are handmade in Morocco, from vegetable-tanned suede leather.

SOCCO founder Samir moved from Morocco to Canada in 2011, and began SOCCO Designs in 2017. Since then, the family owned and operated business has grown to employ 20 artisans back home in Morocco. SOCCO wares are ethically handcrafted, using traditional Moroccan techniques.

CANDLES

Next up, A White Nest candles. Made in New Brunswick, these small batch, hand poured candles are just perfect. They are made with 100% soy wax, which (unlike petroleum based candles) does not result in CO2 output. They also last twice as long, and produce next to no soot. The wicks are self-trimming, made from a blend of cotton with a paper core. The fragrances are Paraben and Phthalate free, as well as vegan and Kosher certified.

It’s nearly impossible to pick a favourite - in the shop, we have Sweet Autumn, Tobacco + Leather, Coffee Cake, Orchard, Amber + Honey, Bourbon + Pear, and Vanilla.

TURTLENECKS

Now for some clothing! If I were to pick a fall wardrobe staple, something that never goes out of style and always looks good, it would absolutely be this black turtleneck from Terrera. This lightweight turtleneck is 95% certified organic bamboo viscose and 5% spandex. It is so, so soft, and the drape of the fabric is really flattering - not too clingy, but still fitted. It’ easy to dress up or down, and perfect on its own or layered under a blazer or chunky knit.

Terrera is a Canadian clothing brand. They emphasize conscious production at each step of production. Farms, mills and factories are all located in the same region, reducing the ecological impact of shipping.

CHUNKY KNITS

If you’ve been in the shop lately, you’ve probably seen me in this Twigg and Feather sweater - I wear it pretty much every other day. It is so soft, and so cozy. Effortless and versatile, this sweater can be dressed down with a pair of mom jeans and sneakers, or dressed up with black trousers or a slim midi skirt and heeled boots. I also love it layered on top of the turtleneck above - perfect for those days that start off freezing, and warm up a bit by the afternoon.

Twigg and Feather is a Halifax based, woman owned brand, promoting sustainable and ethical production practices. The knitwear is made in a small, family owned factory in Peru. The knits are made in limited production runs, using locally sourced Peruvian cotton.

CLAY MASK

The Cure’s body whip and clay mask are my self-care duo of choice. I’ve a Sunday evening ritual which includes a bath and a glass of wine (and A White Nest candle), followed by both of these beautiful products. The clay mask is so unique - unlike any other clay mask I’ve used, it does not dry while you wear it. I love the benefits of clay masks, but I am not keen on the discomfort caused by a mask drying up on my face. With this mask, I get all those benefits, with none of the discomfort. The mask offers deep cleaning, and helps reduce buildup while hydrating, tightening, and brightening skin.

BODY WHIP

This body whip is so incredibly hydrating and luxurious. The highly rich formula is made from plant oils to help hydrate the skin. As the seasons change, I tend to get little dry patches of skin on my legs - kind of like eczema, in small circular patches. This product works better than anything else I’ve tried to reduce/calm the dry patches.

The body whip is available in both Unscented and (new for the fall season!) Geranium, Rose and Cedar.

The Cure is a woman owned, natural skincare brand with a focus on sustainable ingredients, based in Halifax. Every ingredient is chosen for its effective proprieties - no fillers, Parabens, perfumes or emulsifiers.

CHEMEX COFFEE MAKER

+ REUSABLE FILTER

Finally, I have the customary fall hot drink. While I love a chai latte as much as the next person, this fall I have been rediscovering my love of coffee. I get into iced coffees in the summer, but I don’t think there’s a comparison for a hot cup of coffee on a crisp morning. A good morning starts when I give myself enough time to make coffee at home, sit down with a cup before starting my day, and then take a second cup in my reusable mug when I head out the door.

A Chemex coffee maker and reusable coffee filter from Pinyon Products completes the ritual. Chemex pour-overs are classic and timeless, with an elegant glass and wood design. They are simple and easy to use, as well.

We have a variety of reusable coffee filters in the shop from Pinyon Products, including one specifically designed for Chemex coffee makers. The filters are made of 55% hemp and 45% organic cotton, and last through hundreds of uses. They are handmade with care in Canada, and make the perfect zero waste swap!

That wraps up my faves of the Fall 2020 season! All items are currently available at Juniper. What are you loving this fall? Have any recommendations? Anything you’d love to see offered in store? Please let me know in the comments below!

Warmly,
