Why "Juniper"?

So, where did the name “Juniper” come from? Good question. I’m not sure why, but as soon as I began to articulate the idea of a sustainable lifestyle shop, the name was attached. Call it a moment of clarity, or divine inspiration. Maybe I was struck by a greenery bundle at the local plant nursery, or perhaps I was moved by a particularly refreshing G&T. Whatever the reason, the very first page in my notebook of scribbled brainstorming has Juniper scrawled along the top.

At some point, I looked up the meaning of the word. Turns out, “juniper” derives from the Latin word “juniperus.” The first part of the word, “junio” means young or youth, and the second part, “parere,” means to produce. So, together, “juniper” means youth producing. How perfect. Once I knew this origin story, the name was set in stone.

Now, age is just a number, and speaking purely numbers, I am not particularly young anymore…but something about sustainability and “youth producing” rings true. With the production of new, fresh, innovative, young ideas, I believe it will be our capacity for creativity that will help us in preserving and regenerating our environment.

So, let’s embrace and nurture this creativity, and strive for a greener future. For ourselves, future generations, and this earth we call home.

Warmly,

KP
